Vidas letradas de adultos em processo de Reconhecimento, Validação e Certificação de Competências

Em Portugal é ainda dominante a ideia de que ser-se letrado é unicamente o domínio de capacidades técnicas para a (des)codificação de textos escritos. Quem não atinge um bom nível em testes de literacia é considerado, assim, iletrado. Esquece esta visão que, no quotidiano de cada indivíduo, mesmo entre quem não tem aquele domínio, são múltiplos os eventos de literacia, envolvendo o uso eficaz de textos variados com finalidades de leitura e de escrita também distintas. Abordando as práticas de leitura e escrita numa perspetiva social, este texto toma como objeto os modos de uso da linguagem escrita por 113 adultos envolvidos no processo de RVCC, em Centros de Novas Oportunidades do distrito de Braga, Portugal. Entre as principais conclusões dos dados obtidos por questionário, com que se visava genericamente compreender o lugar da literacia nas vidas destas pessoas, destaca-se a variedade de textos produzidos e usados pelos adultos no seu quotidiano, aos quais se ligam propósitos variados das diferentes esferas das suas vidas.In Portugal it is still dominant the idea that to be literate means solely the mastery of technical skills for (de)coding written texts. Those who do not have good performances in literacy tests are then considered illiterate. This view ignores that in each individual daily life, even among those that are said not to have that mastery, there are multiple literacy events, involving the use of diverse texts with reading and writing purposes also distinct. Approaching literacy practices under a social perspective, this text elects as its main object the ways of using written language by 113 adults enrolled in the Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learnings process (RVCC, in Portugal), at New Opportunities Centers, of Braga, Portugal. Literacy in Portugal: country report: children and adolescents

This report on the state of literacy in Portugal is one of a series produced in 2015 and 2016 by ELINET, the European Literacy Policy Network. ELINET was founded in February 2014 and has 78 partner organisations in 28 European countries1. ELINET aims to improve literacy policies in its member countries in order to reduce the number of children, young people and adults with low literacy skills. One major tool to achieve this aim is to produce a set of reliable, up-to-date and comprehensive reports on the state of literacy in each country where ELINET has one or more partners, and to provide guidance towards improving literacy policies in those countries. The reports are based (wherever possible) on available, internationally comparable performance data, as well as reliable national data provided (and translated) by our partners.ELINET - EAC/S05/201
